Jul 6, 2007: Kathy Abeyta Promoted Within the State Treasurer's Office

Kathy Abeyta has been promoted to the Investment Accounting Bureau Chief position following the retirement of long-time bureau chief Tomasita Gallegos. Kathy has been with the Treasurer's Office since 1989 when she was hired during the prior administration of the current Treasurer, James B. Lewis. Most recently working as a financial analyst in the Investment Division, among her other responsibilities, in calendar year 2006, Kathy processed nearly 4,000 state agencies' wire transfers totaling more than $27 billion.

Treasurer James B. Lewis congratulated Kathy on her promotion at a recent staff meeting and noted that "she's a great example of career success within the agency. Her knowledge of the agency's functions, dedication, and work ethic are admirable and worthy of imitation."

According to Kathy's supervisor and Investment Division Director, Joelle Mevi, "Kathy is the ideal candidate for the Investment Accounting Bureau Chief position. Not only did she work closely with Tommie for many years but, as a long-time STO employee, she has developed an extensive knowledge of STO functions and interagency relationships. I’m happy to have Kathy’s expertise, reliability, and capability in the Investment Division and look forward to working with her for a long time."

In addition to her bureau chief supervisory duties, Kathy now takes on the responsibility for paying the debt on all the state's bond issues and reporting the state's investment activities and interest earnings.
